Ministry With Youth in Crisis
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (October, 1900)
Author: Harley Atkinson
Average review score:

Solid help for youth pastors faced with teens in crisis
Reflecting a solid awareness of current thinking in crisis and family therapy, Atkinson writes to youth pastors and workers faced with teenagers in crisis. Although professional therapists provide an excellent resource, the truth remains that it is the clergy that are most often "first on the scene" in family or individual crises. Written from an evangelical perspective, Atkinson should be a part of the basic library and resources of any adult involved in ministry to and with adolescents.

The Next New Madrid Earthquake: A Survival Guide for the Midwest (Shawnee Books)

The Need for Earthquake Preparedness
This book does an excellent job of describing the recent history of the New Madrid fault, and the impact of recorded earthquakes in that area.

The book also serves as an effective planning guide for government agencies, businesses, and indiviuals. Proper preparation is critical if this now highly developed region is to survive another earthquake or series of earthquakes such as those that occured in 1811-12.

The Numerical Solution of Integral Equations of the Second Kind
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (July, 1997)
Author: Kendall E. Atkinson
Average review score:

A Good Introductory Text at the Graduate Level
Atkinson's book is a good introduction of the material. The book is written is such a way that someone who is familiar with Galerkin finite element methods for partial differential equations can quickly gain some understanding of numerical methods for this class of integral equations. For a more complete review, see Ian Sloan's review in the March 1999 issue of SIAM Review.

The Secret Marriage of Sherlock Holmes and Other Eccentric Readings
Published in Paperback by University of Michigan Press (February, 1999)
Author: Michael Atkinson
Average review score:

A stimulating read
This is a book about reading - not just casual reading, but a considered form of reading employing techniques not unlike those of Sherlock Holmes himself.

The author takes a sample of the Holmesian Canon and subjects them to careful analysis to come up with sometimes surprising results. Atkinson describes his readings as "eccentric", a view which I must support. By drawing parallels between the stories and a variety of literary, pop cultural and religious matters, some far better known than others, Atkinson reveals sidelights on well-known stories which should delight many readers.

The book would be of interest to students of literary criticism or ardent Holmesians, and especially to those who are both.

My view: a good and stimulating read that encouraged me to re-read old favouites.

Thought Force in Business and Everyday Life
Published in Paperback by Health Research (December, 1967)
Author: William W. Atkinson
Average review score:

more of a correction than a review
I have not read this book. The purpose of writing this is to inform prospective buyers that there's a slight error in the book description. Checking with Kessinger's catalog, this book contains 94 pages and not the stated 226 (check book dimensions).

I did rate this book, however, based on another book I have by the same author and publisher. It is Practical Psychomancy and Crystal Gazing (1907) and at 93 pages it basically has the same dimensions as this book does.
